Bronze Sophocles working clock



Bronze Sophocles working clock. An impressive 19th century French bronze figure of Greek Playwright Sophocles born around 490BC . The seated figure bearded is dressed in a flowing robe with an engraved scroll in his left hand. On the clock top are wreaths for his head and below that a container holding copies of his plays and hence the plaque in his hand stating Antigone,Ajax, Adipe and Electic (all plays he wrote).

The base is very heavy and this is an impressive piece of sculpture.

The clock has a key.
